On a beautiful sunny day, two friends were discussing tourism in Vietnam and the unfortunate reality that the majority of tour operators were engaging in unsustainable practices. They realized that truly sustainable tours were only being offered by a small number of operators, no more than the number of fingers on one’s hand. One friend expressed the desire to establish a genuine eco tour operator where every client, even if they only used a single service, could be considered an eco-traveler. The other friend agreed, saying, “Why not? Let’s shake hands and give it a try!” Within a few months, Gira Indochina conducted its first tour.
